About Me

a Southard Gothic was born from quiet boredom, manifesting its way into creativity. Inspired by my sister's passion for doing her own nails, I began learning from her and doing the same. Typical litter sister things. Before I knew it, I had an entire set up. Countless bottles of gel, rhinestones, charms, chrome powders etc. You name it, I had it. While working in an oddities shop that welcomed artists to sell their work, I asked the owner if I could bring in a few of my press-on nail sets, and that’s basically where I began.

My work extends beyond nails into sewing, block printing, specimen art and I’m sure other things in the future. As far as my specimen art, in the springtime, my partner forages bones from the local area, which I transform into art. Though it may not be for everyone, I believe it honors not only the cycles of life, but also the beauty behind decay and returning to the earth.

The name Southard Gothic blends family lineage with art. “Southard” is a family name, while the word gothic draws from one of my fiancée’s and my most loved paintings, the American Gothic; a symbol of permanence, devotion and quiet darkness.
